Jim Webbs candidacy has been endorsed by the IAFF, the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters Association and the Virginia AFL-CIO.  In fact, IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger came into Northern Virginia two weeks ago to campaign for Jim Webb.

October 17, 2006 – IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger, Mike Mohler, president of the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters (VPFF) and IAFF members from throughout Virginia announced the VPFF’s endorsement of Jim Webb for U.S. Senate during a press conference held October 16 in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Webb is running against incumbent Republican Senator George Allen on November 7. The former Marine, who served as Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan, supports fully funding SAFER legislation to hire new fire fighters and the right to collective bargaining, as well as staffing and other issues important to fire fighters.

“It’s time for us to stand up for the candidate in this race to represent Virginia in the U.S. Senate who has spent his entire life protecting our country,” Schaitberger told the gathered crowd. “Jim Webb knows how to protect our fighting men and women, and that experience also gives Jim Webb the knowledge and ability to know how to protect our fire fighters and our homeland.”

Appointed by Ronald Reagan to serve as Secretary of the Navy and as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, Webb has also protected military veterans by serving as Counsel to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. “We are here to tell the voters of this state that there is no other candidate in this entire country who has served and sacrificed more to protect America than Jim Webb,” said Schaitberger, “and now he deserves our support and vote.”
